The construction of the Trans-Andean railway became famous around the whole world. It was considered a true miracle of technology and the victory of the human mind over wildlife.

Polish engineer thought that only by using the most durable material and by the commitment of the best professionals he could provide the success of the project.

Railway engines bought by E. Malinowski were endowed with then the most high-tech technology invention, Westinghouse air brakes.

Railway sleepers made of tough red Californian pine trees were of excellent quality.

During the railway construction, many engineers from different countries were hired. E. Malinowski chose professionals by himself. Among them was American Lefferts Buck.

The engineer has had extensive experience working on chasms. He was one of the people that assembled the pillars of the Brooklyn Bridge and constructions over Niagara Waterfalls.

Setting up the scaffolding wasn't possible, so L. Buck commended hanging eight steel cables over the gulf, on which construction elements were lowered.

E. Malinowski also hired sailors who were experts in sail handling and rope climbing. They were in charge of installing bridges at high altitudes.

Polish engineer hired local Indians to montage of "Verrugas" bridge, which was constructed, i.e., a hammock bridge.

Indians constructed the hammock bridge by using a sling flipped through a thin robe on the other side of the gulf. Afterward they dragged a thicker robe by using the thinner one, and at the end, they stalled a steel rope.

A few thousand Chinese people were employed to lay tracks. They were brought to Peru after the Peruvian government signed a treaty with China that guaranteed good work conditions.
